Our story

A calling shaped by lived experience

SOCMI was founded by Justina Osagie, whose childhood experience of uncertainty around basic necessities gave her a lasting empathy for people facing hardship. Her years in care work, Christian ministry, evangelism, homelessness outreach, rehabilitation support, soup kitchens, food banks, and community teaching helped shape a ministry grounded in service.

The organization begins with a commitment to Nigeria and a wider hope: to build communities where immediate needs are met, people gain lifelong skills, and the love of Christ is demonstrated through action. SOCMI seeks to serve people freely and respectfully. Assistance is never used to pressure anyone into faith or membership.

What we do

Our areas of focus

  • Essential Aid

    Current focus

    Essential aid is the most immediate way SOCMI seeks to serve. Through outreach visits and partnerships with shelters and food banks, the aim is to help meet urgent, practical needs — food, school supplies, clothing, and other necessities — delivered with respect rather than as a transaction.

  • Emotional and Spiritual Support

    Current focus

    Many of the people SOCMI seeks to serve carry burdens that material aid alone cannot address. The ministry creates safe opportunities to be heard, encouraged, and mentored, and — where welcomed and appropriate — offers faith-based support. This care is never used to pressure anyone toward faith or membership.

  • Housing and Stability

    In development

    Stable housing is a foundation for every other kind of progress. SOCMI is developing responsible housing-support initiatives, including rent grants and subsidies, fair eligibility and application processes, and partnerships with landlords. This area of work is in development, not yet operational.

  • Skills and Sustainable Livelihoods

    Long-term goal

    Lasting change comes when people gain skills and opportunities of their own. SOCMI's longer-term vision includes vocational training, agricultural support, education, and small-business development — building pathways toward sustainable livelihoods that benefit individuals and whole communities.

  • Community Partnerships

    Current focus

    SOCMI does not work alone. Meaningful impact depends on collaboration with churches, shelters, food banks, counselling services, local organizations, supporters, and community leaders. Partnership is both a method and a value of the ministry.

SOCMI is developing its programmes in stages. Availability depends on location, partnerships, funding, eligibility, and safeguarding requirements.

A staged approach: building trust first, expanding opportunity as partnerships and funding grow, and establishing a lasting local presence over time.

  1. Short term

    Build the foundation

    • Research and establish relationships with shelters, food banks, counsellors, churches, and local organizations.Assess community needs.Recruit and prepare volunteers.Plan outreach visits and gather essential supplies.Publish useful resources and create respectful online engagement.

  2. Medium term

    Expand opportunity

    • Research funding for housing support.Define fair eligibility, application, and payment processes.Build relationships with landlords.Develop vocational, agricultural, educational, and small-business initiatives.Recruit trainers and mentors.Evaluate existing outreach and responsibly expand into new areas.

  3. Long term

    Build lasting presence

    • Identify and assess underserved communities.Build trust through sustained engagement.Establish an appropriate physical presence.Diversify income through donations, grants, sponsorships, fundraising, and carefully governed sustainable models.Build aligned collaborations that expand responsible impact.
